A client recently had expressed her disappointment regarding a particular leather material used to create her leather journal cover and claimed it’s bonded leather. I am very sorry she didn’t like the leather texture. But I would like to stress and assure my clients that I do not like to deal with bonded leather nor I wish to sell them as a finished product. Bonded leather by definition is not real leather. It's much lower quality, because it is a mixture of leather and adhesive to hold the composite together.
Regarding leather materials, I source all leather materials from a few reputable leather dealers over the years and have full confidence with their materials. I am no leather expert but I do check if the leather material in question is genuine or otherwise using experience and also testing materials by scent and burn test. I always strive to provide genuine leather materials to our clients.
Leather is unique and every piece will have variations in temper and characteristics. There are a few distinct leather grades but in reality, there are too many grade variations, textures, tanning and treatment techniques. I will always strive to ensure there are no discrepancy and no big gap between what clients expects and the actual product. Firstly, I try to be as descriptive as possible in my product page regarding a particular leather material, texture and color. Secondly, I do encourage every client to communicate with me about their leather preferences, the cover size, and other requirements prior to placing a made-to-order item. In addition, I do provide leather swatches upon request if you feel it would help you to make a decision. (only a small shipping fee is required.) So, please make every effort to communicate with me before making an order or any time before I proceed to work on your order.
For all those who have purchased and communicated your requirements with me over the years will know that I am very happy to oblige whenever possible. It’s my pleasure and satisfaction to know you are happy with what you have ordered. It’s also my motivation to continue to create interesting useful items and provide an enjoyable creative experience. All my leather journal / planner covers are bespoke handmade item. I personally hand cut and hand sewn every piece based on your cover requirements. This transaction requires mutual respect and commitment to produce an end product that will be loved in many years to come.
